Singapore should be aware of the global economic problems and how it may affect the country, the presidential candidate, Tony Tan said yesterday.
Citing the current debt crisis the United States as an example, Dr Tan, 71, asked if the uncertainty globally, "overwhelm" of Singapore.
"We are in uncharted territory here. What does it mean for jobs? How can they (workers) to stay relevant? ... Will prices continue to rise?" said.
"I see great difficulties ahead of Singapore."
Ensure that workers "have the skills to increase productivity, if costs increase," is crucial, he said.
