BEIJING, Aug 8 (Xinhuanet) - British authorities appealed for calm on Sunday, a day after riots fires, looting, and many went through a poor area of north London. Police are monitoring social networking sites to prevent a recurrence of violence. Local residents blamed the fighting on a combination of factors.
A peaceful protest turned deadly.
On Sunday, residents in the London district of Tottenham mourned the death of Mark Duggan, a young man killed after an exchange of gunfire with police Thursday.
But the situation lost control angry crowds threw bottles, burned cars and ransacked buildings.
26 policemen were injured, with eight hospitalized. And 42 people were arrested.
The area in the center of the violence has been closed as police attempt to restore order.
