Lead singer Jason Wade wrote this when he was young. Originally titled "You And Me And All Of The People," this song was revived and renamed to the shorter "You and Me." It was the first single from Lifehouse's third album.

Once he found out that he was going to have a son, Stapp wrote this song because he didn't want his child facing the same problems he faced while growing up. Stapp was from a very strict, very devout Christian household and he didn't want his son to grow up questioning himself and his faith just like his father did. He didn't like his own father when he was growing up and even tried to run away during high school.

The song's video shows Guetta at a rooftop creating bubbles which contain the song's beats. They drift across the cities attracting people to his party. The French DJ explained the concept to AOL Music: "Well basically, the idea is that I'm a little bit of a crazy, lonely scientist on a rooftop creating bubbles that I'm spreading to the world. And those bubbles are making people happy and crazy, and that's basically the idea of music. That's what happens. The bubbles come to town and when people touch it they start to feel the music inside of them, and start dancing and go crazy."
